Due to the phenomenal number of submissions for the Green Carnation Prize 2011 it has been decided that, after a meeting with the judges last week, the deadlines for the Green Carnation Prize 2011 are to be extended.
Simon Savidge, chair of the judges, said “Whilst we are sad that we won’t be able to share the longlist with everyone as soon as we had hoped, we are incredibly excited about this years prize. In only its second year the amount of submissions has more than doubled which has exceeded all we could have hoped for. This year we have even more publishers involved and the titles we have had are wonderfully varied, as are the authors and genres, we want to make sure each one gets the attention it deserves in order to make a great longlist. We want to give people a selection of titles where every book could be a winner… and most importantly where every title is a fantastic read.” One of this years new judges, author Stella Duffy, said “the excitingly large amount of books submitted mean I get to spend a longer summer reading lovely things.”
The new dates for your diaries are as follows…
August 26th 2011 – Submission deadline
September 28th 2011 – Longlist announced
November 2nd 2011 – Shortlist announced
December 7th 2011 – Winner announced
Exciting news indeed. What do you think will make it onto the Green Carnation Prize Longlist 2011?
